Why should a hospital purchase a pneumatic tube system?

The system will directly benefit patient care by speeding up results that are needed STAT. The system will handle transportation of STAT items 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no breaks, vacations, or sick days. Nurses and others delivering STAT items are free to devote more time to their direct patient care duties, resulting in higher productivity.

The system will reduce the need for personnel used as messengers to and from Laboratory and Pharmacy.

The Emergency Room could discharge patients or admit them to the hospital more rapidly. The Laboratories’ specimen delivery schedule will be vastly improved.

The Laboratory can communicate outpatient STAT results more promptly, further reducing delays for patients whose medical treatment awaits test data.

A regular flow of work in departments is achieved. This does not totally eliminate peak time work load, but can spread the peak somewhat, and make the department able to respond more quickly.

The implementation of a pneumatic tube system would make a significant contribution to the FTE:Patient ratio in the hospital.

The economic justification period is very reasonable.

The attached “Cost Justification Calculation” form will detail the method for determining economic cost justification. Please use the format, applying your specific criteria to obtain a preliminary evaluation of the benefits of a modern and reliable computerized pneumatic tube system.
