Evaluation Criteria
- Secured Room
When using a pneumatic tube system, users tend not to batch
work and will send more often. This allows the secured room
workload to be spread out over a course of a shift. Daily
deposits, opening tills, coupons and change packets are
prepared over a course of a shift. Pre-determined deposits
from registers are received, counted, and accurately recorded.
These deposits are then broken up and can be redistributed
as change. Any checks, coupons, or credit card receipts
can also be processed at the same time to begin the daily
process.
- Registers or Collection Points
Manual methods employed for the collections are expensive
and time consuming. They usually are performed at random
times and are batched. The manual collection method usually
employs two employees and sometimes a security guard during
peak periods at an added cost. Each collection point is
swept and placed in a bag. Usually there is an additional
wait time if a collection point is in the middle of processing
a customer. Then all the bags are physically walked back
to the secure room. Then the bags are opened and accounting
process begins. The collection process usually interferes
with customer processing. Customers are made to wait while
moneys are collected. With a tube system, this manual process
is eliminated.
- Change Requests
During the normal course of a day, each collection point
will need additional change. Personnel manually walk to
the collection point to collect the request. Walk to the
secured room and process the request. Then return to the
collection point and issue the change. Most of the change
requests usually stop customer processing, while the change
request is processed. When the personnel assigned this task
are not available, higher priced managers must be used and
customers must wait for their availability.
Summary
Collection and change requests are currently being carried
by people when they could be transported by a tube system.
When assigned personnel are not available, managers are normally
used to accomplish this task. This normally interferes with
their assigned tasks and customers are made to wait. Implementing
a pneumatic tube system would convert this lost time to a
direct savings in manpower and a higher level of productivity.
